The Transitional Living Center (TLC) provides eligible residents the opportunity to focus on reintegration into society with the development of independent living and vocational skills. GED preparation is provided at the facility by the local school district for those residents who are in need of this opportunity. Other residents who are of appropriate age and progressing towards a High School Diploma are enrolled in on-campus classes provided by the Topeka 501 School District. TLC also offers a structured vocational program to enhance independent/daily living skills, job readiness skills, and to increase employment based opportunities for youth. This allows eligible residents the opportunity to establish a work history in order to reduce any outstanding court fees or restitution. Behavioral management is accomplished utilizing a token economy system. The focus of the system is on positive reinforcement and providing immediate consequences for all types of behaviors. Coordinated efforts will be made with a community-based resource to provide services to youth when applicable.
